What is meant by PRK?
« Reply #1 on: October 30, 2011, 03:54:18 PM »
PRK or photorefractive keratectomy was the original excimer laser treatment for nearsightedness, astigmatism and farsightedness. In it, the surface "skin" of the cornea, the epithelium, is removed by any one of several ways. Next, the excimer laser is used to treat the refractive error. Following this a "bandage contact lens" is used to protect the treated area. Eye drops are used to help the healing process. Most low to moderate refractive errors can now be treated with PRK.
