If I were having to choose which procedure to have performed on myself as an eye care professional, I would choose epi-lasik or if needed, PRK (photorefractive keratectomy).

Epi-LASIK is a laser procedure similar to PRK and LASIK. In epi-LASIK the surface "skin" of the cornea, the epithelium, is treated with an alcohol solution to make its removal easier. An attempt is made to remove this layer as a continuous sheet. Then the laser treatment is performed with the excimer laser. Finally the sheet of cells is put back in place to cover the laser-treated area. Some feel there is less discomfort and faster healing by doing this.
