Poor vision not corrected by LASIK
« Reply #1 on: July 15, 2011, 09:18:47 AM »
Q: I am a 37 year-old U.S. immigrant. Since birth my eye sight is very weak. I used to wear about -10.00 contact-lenses. With lenses I could read hardly top three or four lines of the vision chart. Recently I had LASIK surgery. Now I am not using lenses but still my eyesight status is the same as wearing contact lenses. Besides this I suffer from night blindness. I can see nothing in full darkness.
Let me know if there is still another alternative so that I can see normally, or if there are any special spectacles to fulfil my purpose.
A: Generally, one cannot expect post-LASIK vision to be any better than best corrected contact lens vision. There are many causes of night blindness. One of the most frequent is a condition called retinitis pigmentosa. There are special night vision goggles that can improve night vision but they are large and expensive. The best course is to ask these questions of the doctor who performed the LASIK surgery. Good luck.
