LASEK |
|
Laser
Assisted Sub-Epithelial Keratomileusis (LASEK) is another
variation on PRK and Lasik. In the Lasek procedure the surface
"skin" of the cornea (epithelium), is removed using a
microkeratome. A microkeratome is a surgical instrument
capable of shaving minute amounts of tissue (similar to a
carpenter's plane). Following the epithelium's removal in a
sheet, the excimer laser is used, as it is in PRK and LASIK, to
treat the refractive error.
The benefit that some feel is achieved by doing the procedure
this way is more comfort and faster healing. |

other exciting refractive surgery procedures designed to reduce or eliminate the
need for glasses and contact lenses.
In addition to LASIK, the most
important myopia,hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia
refractive procedures are discussed here and more will be
